A Bear in Berlin is a project combining various animation techniques. Inspired by Berlin’s street inhabitance I wanted to make my own version of the city’s coat of arms - the famous Berliner Bear. I started with traditional 2d pencil drawn animation then cut 60 cards to size and painted each frame in watercolour.
Finally with the assistance of
local photographer Felix Sewing I took photographs of the frames in
locations around the city that fitted the theme - using a check-list
to keep the project streamlined. With a supporting soundtrack made
from a collage of audio recordings around Berlin, the Berliner Bear
comes to life in the city that inspired his character.
